Sunsets & Sandy Beaches Collection
Last week I announced the launch of my very own line of nail lacquers. Today I’m super excited to show you swatches of my first collection, Sunsets & Sandy Beaches..
Now before I begin with the swatch I do want to say that yes, these colors do look the same because they are the same…what?! When I first came up with this collection I wanted to create a new twist on multichromes by making them textured, but I know not everyone likes textures. So I decided to make the same color both textured and smooth. So now you’re thinking, ‘But what if I just fully topcoat the texture, won’t they be the same?’, and the answer is no. Even fully topcoated the texture creates a different finished effect. With that out of the way, on to the swatches….
(Index to Pinky) over Midnight in Death Valley (MiDV), alone, over MiDV, alone
Sea You at Sunset is a gold to green to teal multichrome with gold and green glass flecks. Swatch is two coats plus topcoat (I used Make it Shine top coat for all swatches).
(Index to Pinky) over MiDV, alone, over MiDV, alone
Tropical Paradise is a fuschia to purple to blue multichrome with purple and blue glass flecks. Swatch is three coats plus topcoat.
(Index to Pinky) over MiDV, alone, over MiDV, alone
Ignite the Night is a gold to orange to red multichrome with gold and red glass flecks. Swatch is two coats plus topcoat.
(note- this is the best pic I could get because the shine was so strong my camera had a nope moment)
Midnight in Death Valley is a richly pigmented one coat black. Continue reading to see how it stamps and compares to other black polishes.
(Index to Pinky) alone, over MiDV with Bump & Shine , over Sea You at Sunset with Bump & Shine , alone fully top coated with Gelous
Ocean View is a gold to green to teal multichrome textured polish with gold and green glass flecks. Swatch is two coats as described above.
(Index to Pinky) alone, over MiDV with Bump & Shine , over Tropical Paradise with Bump & Shine , alone fully top coated with Gelous
Passion at Sundown is a fuschia to purple to blue multichrome textured polish with purple and blue glass flecks. Swatch is two coats as described above.
(Index to Pinky) alone, over MiDV with Bump & Shine , over Ignite the Night with Bump & Shine , alone fully top coated with Gelous
Desert Sunset is a gold to orange to red multichrome textured polish with gold and red glass flecks. Swatch is two coats as described above.
(Index to Pinky) alone, over MiDV with Bump & Shine , alone Bump & Shine , alone fully top coated with Gelous
Sunset on Black Sand Beach is a rich black textured polish with a rainbow of glass flecks. Swatch is two coats as described above.
The textures dry to a soft matte finish. While they may look gritty, the feeling is not rough and won’t catch on clothes or hair.
You may have noticed that for the past several months every black stamping mani I’ve created has been with Midnight in Death Valley, I truly love using it for stamping. FingerPaints Black Expressionism used to be my go-to but seeing it next to others, it doesn’t stamp as opaque as I thought it did.
Bundle Monster Noir is deeply black and stamps well but does “skip” in certain places.
Sally Hansen Scaredy Matte seems like it should be good for stamping but I found it so hard to work with. It dries super fast and isn’t opaque at all (even though it is on the nail).
Sally Hansen Night Fright (the glossy version to Scardey Matte) stamps only marginally better than Scardey Matte.
B Polished Midnight in Death Valley is richly black and stamps opaque. If you use it for stamping and notice it’s not picking up the image the way it should you may need to add thinner (never acetone!), I recommend a thinner with only Ethyl and Butyl Acetate such as Orly or OPI’s. Similarly if you are using it as a base color and notice it is drying too fast and skipping, or pulling, it may need thinner.
Now for the top coats…
MiDV as base color (Index to Pinky) with Make it Shine, alone, with Make it Shine then Make it Satin, with Make it Shine then Make it Matte
Upclose difference between Make it Matte (L) and Make it Satin(R). Make it Matte has no light reflection where Make it Satin gives a diffused light reflection.
Sunset at Black Sand Beach (L alone R over MiDV) without and with Bump & Shine top coat. Bump & Shine top coat was created specifically for textured polishes, it adds shine and depth while preserving the textured finish. This top coat does not and will not smooth out textures or glitters.
This collection will launch September 6th at noon PST.
